Unkillable night hunter — stamina, team kiting, and Q+E escapes.

Survive Plague at Night

Plague is Route 06’s signature horror beat — a special infected that only appears at night after your squad clears the first C4RL checkpoint. Unlike Regular, Sprinter, Charger, or Boomer zombies, Plague is unkillable. Bullets and melee do not finish it. Instead, you outrun, outplay, and break grabs with Q + E mashes while teammates rotate aggro until dawn or until Plague retreats. Misunderstanding this ruleset ends otherwise strong runs during mid-map loot or Traffic Stop puzzles.

The embedded video shows real night pressure — use it alongside this guide after you read Getting Started and Controls.

When Plague activates

Three conditions must be true:

  1. Your run passed the first checkpoint — before that, nights are dangerous but Plague-free.
  2. The in-run time cycle enters night.
  3. You are outside C4RL’s sealed safe window (checkpoints close after ~90 seconds).

Every night after that milestone can spawn Plague. Frequency and intensity feel higher on longer routes above 2,000 meters, but even early nights post-checkpoint teach the pattern. Plague does not disable at the halfway Traffic Stop — plan puzzles assuming night horror.

What Plague does differently

Plague runs faster than most survivors once your stamina empties. It closes gaps during long straight roads where Sprinters already stress aim. It can grab players, locking movement until you alternate Q and E (mobile shows on-screen prompts). Other survivors melee Plague to force early releases — coordinate in Co-op Tips.

Because DPS checks fail, stop wasting rifle ammo. Focus on pathing, vision, and team passes.

Stamina discipline

Stamina is your real health bar against Plague:

  • Sprint in short bursts; reserve a bar segment before night
  • Walk during loot if night is imminent — audio cues often precede spawn
  • Avoid Marcus-style aggressive charges unless you know remaining stamina (Marcus runs lower pools in community tests)
  • Drink Bloxy Cola or Witches Brew from checkpoint vending when Coins allow — see Checkpoints & C4RL

If Plague grabs you at zero stamina, mash Q + E anyway but expect tighter windows.

Solo survival tactics

Solo is brutal but possible:

  1. Cut loot short when night timer appears — trunk safety beats one extra house
  2. Drive loops — Plague struggles with tight car paths if you re-enter a running vehicle (driver skill dependent)
  3. Hide in lit interiors until dawn — some structures offer breather rooms; see Structures & Loot
  4. Never backpedal in open road — sidestep toward car trunk line

Solo outpost clears need 2 generators — do not die to Plague minutes before finale payoff in Military Outpost.

Co-op pass strategy

With 2–5 players, treat Plague like a relay race:

  • Runner sprints in a wide circle drawing aggro
  • Anchor holds car or checkpoint line preparing next drive
  • Swap when runner stamina dips — voice call “passing to you”
  • Grab save — if Plague locks someone, others melee interrupt while victim mashes Q/E

Five stacks trivialize some nights by chaining passes until morning. Two stacks need crisp comms or Plague splits the team during structure loot.

Vehicle decisions

The car is not a full safe room but helps:

  • Keep engine running before night for quick exits
  • Driver avoids wall rags — stopped cars get surrounded
  • Passengers shoot Sprinters, not Plague
  • Teleport car to C4RL only when team agrees — Coin fees hurt economy

Fuel management ties directly to night escapes. Empty tank on a hill = Plague game over.

Structure and puzzle nights

Mid-map Traffic Stop requires keys and puzzle steps while Plague roams. Strategy:

  • Scout key location at dusk if possible
  • Assign one Plague runner while others puzzle
  • If puzzle stalls, hold inside until dawn, then finish mechanics safely
  • Do not split across opposite ends of the map without radios

Weather stations and warehouses with roof access give vertical kiting — climb, jump down when Plague pathing resets.

Weapons and items that help

You cannot kill Plague, but you can control regular zombies that complicate kiting:

  • Shotguns clear Sprinters during passes
  • Melee staggers for rescue swings on grabbed teammates
  • Healing items after escape prevent death by chip damage

Mental checklist each night

Before sunset after checkpoint one:

  • Stamina above half
  • Team near car or agreed rally point
  • Ammo for Sprinters, not Plague
  • Fuel checked
  • Know which player leads first pass

After sunrise, resume loot rhythm until next night.

Common mistakes

  • Shooting Plague until ammo dry
  • Sprinting into structure basements with one exit
  • Forgetting Q/E muscle memory on mobile
  • Starting Traffic Stop puzzles at deepest night
  • Ignoring teammate grabs to finish selling at C4RL

Fix these before farming Tokens — death resets distance progress.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can you kill Plague in Route 06?

No. Plague is unkillable. Break grabs with Q+E, kite until dawn, or pass aggro in co-op.

When does Plague start spawning?

At night after your team passes the first C4RL checkpoint. Not before that milestone.

Does Plague appear at Traffic Stop?

Yes. Plague is not disabled there. Wait for morning or assign a runner during the puzzle.

What if I run out of stamina?

Plague catches you quickly. Walk before night, use vending stamina items, and swap runners in co-op.
